With the initiative shifted in the Soviets' favor after the Kursk offensive, the 1st Guards Tank Brigade took part in Operation Rumyantsev as it attempted to drive the Germans out of Belograd. The Germans responded quickly to the Soviet offensive attacks on August 3rd, but all of their counterattacks were repulsed and the Soviets plunged ahead. On the morning of the 4th, the 1st Guards Tank Brigade attempted to race through a hole in the German positions near Domnin. They ran into the lead tanks of the 19th Panzer Division while pursuing retreating German infantry. Soon both sides committed its armor and a wild melee broke out.
Objectives: Drive south to pursue the retreating German forces past all villages.
